Job Summary

The Team
The Peace Region Fisheries Team is a dynamic, tight-knit group of two dedicated fisheries biologists who are committed to ensuring the sustainability of fisheries resources in the Peace Region. This established team, consisting of a Senior Fisheries Biologist and a Fisheries Biologist, actively monitors and manages local fisheries, collaborating closely with other provincial fish biologists, engagement biologists, and regional management. We value the dedication and expertise of our team members and are committed to fostering an inclusive and supportive work environment where diverse perspectives are respected and integrated into our efforts to protect and manage fisheries.

The Role
As a Fisheries Biologist on the Peace Region Fisheries Team, you'll play a key role in contributing to vital fisheries projects, conducting fieldwork, and administering the Wildlife Act.These projects may include Bull trout redd surveys, species specific population inventories and small lakes assessments. Your work will have a direct impact on ensuring that fishing in the Peace Region is both sustainable and enjoyable for everyone. This is an excellent opportunity for early-career biologists to gain hands-on experience in fisheries management, while working in some of the most beautiful areas of the province. Qualifications:
Education and Experience Requirements
  • Master'sDegree or higher in biological sciences, fisheries sciences/management, or related field. PLUS two (2) years *related experience
  • Bachelor'sDegree or higher in biological sciences, fisheries sciences/management, or related field. Plus four (4) years *related experience

*Related experience includes field-based biological sampling, analysis and reporting, and providing advice within a regulatory regime.
  • Registered, or immediately eligible to register, as a Registered Professional Biologist (RPBio) with the BC College of Applied Biologists (CAB). Note: immediately eligible for registration is defined as being able to transfer a current membership from an applicable jurisdiction to the CAB within six (6) months of employment. Confirmation of registration/eligibility is required before an offer of employment can be made.
  • Experience developing biological surveys, as well as assessing and monitoring natural resources.


Preference may be given to applicants with one (1) or more of the following:
  • Experience managing recreational fisheries.
  • Experience leading staff in project or field settings.
  • Experience interpreting and applying natural resource management legislation and policy.

Willingness Statements
  • Willing to conduct field work in all weather conditions and environments. This may include travel to remote areas by vehicle, boat, air or foot, overnight or extended stay in camp conditions and operation of a variety of equipment.
  • Willing to meet safety standards of Worksafe BC
