As an Advisor, Recognition & People Experience with Vancouver Coastal Health you will:
- Act as an expert resource for recognition and strategic retention initiatives that contribute to making VCH a great place to work.
- Create and support initiatives and programs designed to enhance VCH’s people experience and improve retention, including meaningful recognition for staff, physicians, and volunteers.
- Be an internal culture catalyst, initiative leader and facilitator committed to enhancing people experience through creating and enhancing recognition moments, and people-focused retention strategies.
- Develop, recommend, and implement people experience programs and strategies aligned with our shared VCH purpose and values to build relationships, increase engagement, and enhance team performance in service of building a great workplace culture that promotes leading practices for recognition (peer-to-peer, leader to staff, and staff to leader recognition).
- Provide tools and resources to support new and existing leaders, champions, and staff practices for appreciation, recognition, retention and staff engagement.
- Lead workshops and attend community of practice, design supports and self-serve tools, and engage operational leaders and staff in planning and providing feedback on people experience programs, as appropriate.
- Collaborate and communicate with local and organization-wide clinical, non-clinical and leadership teams to support staff engagement in cultural change and retention in support of the overall People Experience strategy at VCH.

Education & Experience
- Master’s Degree in a field related to Human Resource or Business Administration.
- Five (5) to seven (7) years of progressively more senior experience in a unionized setting and working knowledge of standard human resource policies and practices, or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience.
Knowledge & Abilities
- Practices the recognition, inclusion and support of all types and aspects of diversity at all stages of engagement, with an understanding of the issues faced by people from equity-seeking groups, including those who experience intersectional barriers.
- Develops and maintains strong relationships with key internal and external partners to promote and enhance services provided with sensitivity to diversity and indigenous lens
- Demonstrated expertise and experience in human resource/people and employee experience in complex organizational settings.
- Demonstrated ability to provide senior advisory services and consultation to managers utilizing strong communication skills and the ability to educate, mentor, coach, facilitate, persuade and influence.
- Can quickly build relationships with internal stakeholders.
- Demonstrated ability in effective project management and utilization of communication.
- Strong project management, prioritization and planning skills in the design and development of educational strategies and initiatives.
- Commitment to upholding the shared responsibility of creating lasting and meaningful reconciliation in Canada as per TRC (2015) and BC’s
- Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples Act (2019).
- Applies superior judgment and political expertise to communicate sensitive information to, and collaborate with, a variety of internal and external partners.
- Efficient, organized, hard-working; ‘get stuff done’.
- People person – appreciates and visibly supports all levels.
- Uses facilitation skills for effective dialogue, solution-finding, and conflict resolution.
- Fosters creativity and innovation in strategic planning involving cultural shifts and large scale change.
As per Ministry of Health policy, all health care workers working in publicly-funded health care facilities are required to report their past receipt of certain vaccines or history of certain infections. Collecting these records will allow for offering of any missing vaccines, and for appropriate actions to be taken in the event of any future exposure to a communicable disease or during outbreaks. For all new hires and appointments to Vancouver Coastal Health, you will be asked to provide this information as part of the onboarding process.
