Job Summary
The Team
The South Coast Region - Indigenous Relations Team is a well-established and growing group of dedicated professionals who work collaboratively to deliver on the ministry's reconciliation obligations and the province's duty to consult. This team engages with 93 First Nations across the Fraser Valley, Lower Mainland, Sunshine Coast, Vancouver Island, and the Gulf Islands, incorporating First Nations' interests into projects such as the Surrey Langley Skytrain, Belleville Terminal Replacement, and Highway 1 Corridor Improvements. By fostering strong relationships with ministry staff, First Nations, and other partners, the team ensures that cultural, economic, archaeological, and environmental priorities are meaningfully reflected in infrastructure projects, shaping how the ministry engages with Indigenous communities.
The Role
As a Project Coordinator, Indigenous Relations, you will support consultation activities for highway projects that are economically significant and have the potential for legal or political impacts. A key part of your role will be identifying program activities where Indigenous involvement and participation should occur and preparing detailed consultation plans. Working closely with Advisors and Senior Advisors, you'll help address Indigenous groups' concerns through meaningful consultations and negotiations, ensuring their interests are incorporated while advancing key infrastructure projects. This role offers the chance to work on a wide variety of projects, fostering continuous learning and professional growth in a dynamic and impactful environment.

Qualifications:
Education and Experience Requirements
- A Bachelor's degree or higher in Indigenous Relations, geography, archaeology, anthropology, political science, public administration, forestry, natural resources, regional planning, law, business administration or related field, and related experience OR
- A Diploma in geography, archaeology, anthropology, political science, public administration, forestry, natural resources, regional planning, law, business administration or related field, and 2 years of related experience OR
- A certificate in geography, archaeology, anthropology, political science, public administration, forestry, natural resources, regional planning, law, business administration or related field, and 3 years of related experience OR
- An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.
- Must possess and maintain a valid Class 5 BC Driver's Licence.
Related experience should include:
- Experience managing multiple projects and negotiations.
- Experience working with Indigenous communities.
- Experience conducting research and analysis related to land use, historical highway right of way, resource management, social or economic development issues.
Preference may be given to applicants with:
- Experience building and maintaining relationships with Indigenous communities.
- Operational experience with highway infrastructure.
- Experience with property acquisition, surveys, contract services, and tenure related negotiations.
