This position works with minimal supervision as part of a multi-disciplinary team of scientists and foresters, balancing technical fieldwork with data management, and planning and administration of research projects. Key responsibilities include designing and carrying out fieldwork and coordinating detailed and complex scientific field measurements and input into the corporate growth and yield database, ensuring a continued source of high-quality research data required for development of state-of-the-art provincial forest management policy and practices. This position provides technical expertise and field services in support of the provincial growth and yield and silviculture research program, quality assures data, and ensures linkages with other branches responsible for forest management planning and development of provincial legislation, policy and practices.

Job Requirements:
• Degree or technical diploma in resource or forestry management, and a minimum two (2) years' experience in forestry activities; OR,
• An equivalent combination of education and five (5) or more years' experience in forestry activities may be considered.
• Registered, or immediately eligible for registration, as a Forest Technologist with Forest Professionals BC(FPBC). Note: immediately eligible for registration is defined as being able to transfer a current membership from an applicable jurisdiction. Applicants must confirm their eligibility with the FPBC. Confirmation of registration/eligibility will be required before an offer of employment can be made.
• Experience and working knowledge of silviculture, growth and yield, inventory (biometrics), technical forestry management, field operations, statistics and related software programs (e.g., SAS, R).
• Experience and working knowledge of contract administration, financial management and control.
• Experience collecting field data covering a range of stand attributes using specialized electronic instruments and scientific equipment that includes observing, reporting, and maintaining accurate records.
• Demonstrated experience using Microsoft Office Suite and databases.
• Experience to communicate clearly, both orally and in writing.

Preference may be given to applicants with the following:
• Experience and knowledge of forest ecology, health, and soils; provincial forest tenure and resource management legislation; and Ministry mandate and structure.
• Demonstrated experience summarizing and conducting statistical analyses of field data.
• Experience with various spatial products, including mapping and data queries using GIS and digital mapping tools.
• Experience in more than one field of forestry.

Provisos
• Must hold and maintain a valid BC Driver's Licence and be willing and able to operate 4X4 trucks on all types of terrain.
• Willing and able to travel frequently to research sites for several days to conduct field work which may include working outside normal hours, independent travel to remote areas by vehicle, boat, air or foot, overnight or extended stay in rough camp conditions, hiking long distance with heavy equipment, and outdoor work in all weather conditions.
• Must be willing, physically fit and able to fly in fixed or rotary wing aircraft.
